Updates to your computer’s motherboard, sound card, and network drivers don’t generally give speed improvements. They will often fix rare bugs – and maybe even introduce new bugs.A graphics driver is the software that allow your operating system and programs to use your computer’s graphics hardware.
In theory, this sounds great -- no more worrying about having the latest patches installed, no more concerns that a machine that hasn’t been updated will cause problems for others -- but an issue with NVidia drivers shows that there is potential for things to go wrong.
Irate owners of NVidia graphics cards have taken to support forums to complain that automatically-installed drivers have broken their computers.
One of the features that has been removed from Windows 10 -- at least for home users -- is the ability to pick and choose when updates are installed.
Microsoft has taken Windows Update out of the hands of users so the process is, for the most part, completely automated.
As reported by Gordon Kelly on Forbes, there are many people complaining that updates to NVidia drivers -- which are installed without manual intervention -- are causing problems, and even killing computers.
Scores of comments have been left on the Ge Force community forum where disgruntled NVidia users have spent the last week and a half voicing their anger at what has happened.
Starting with R275 drivers, NVIDIA Update also provides automatic updates for game and program profiles, including SLI profiles.
NVIDIA Update provides notifications for Ge Force and ION GPUs for both desktop and notebook PCs. When you install a Release 270 or later Ge Force/ION driver from you will be presented with the option to install NVIDIA Update.
Not on NVidia's website, nor on AMD's and not even on Acer's support website. IF the computer manufacturer was actually doing anything custom with the GPU then yes they would need to provide custom drivers and you would need to use those drivers.
More than likely the interoperability of computer components has risen to a very functional and optimized level so why waste resources implementing custom solutions when the default config is basically "Good enough".
One would argue that it's better to always run the latest drivers of AMD (or NVidia or Intel) to gain the best experience.
